Women write for a number of reasons but I can summarise the reasons
into two; to have a voice and to bring about change.
As we still live in a male-dominated world, there is a need for
women to write to air their voices and opinions. This is a major reason women
write. Women write to bring issues that affect them to the forefront. Women are
more qualified and positioned to write on subjects like menstruation,
child-birth, breastfeeding, menopause and the likes. Men writing on such would
be inadequate. Women writers would increase our understanding of these
female-centric topics by writing from their experience and this is why it is
important for women to have a voice. Consequently, women write primarily to
have a voice and to be able to air their opinions on things particularly on
issues that specifically pertains to them. This is not to say that they can’t
have opinions on things that are not specific to them. Women have the right to
air their views and opinions on whatever they want. Therefore, women write to
exercise their freedom to have a voice and air their opinions on topics and
subjects of their choice.
Another important reason women write is to bring about change.
Women have issues bothering them and writing about them could bring about
needed publicity that could change their situation on the issues. This could
include things like domestic violence, sexual abuse, gender inequality and so
on. The only way to drive home the importance of changing these challenges
would be by women writing passionately on the issues and explaining the
importance of addressing the problems and challenges. This a major reason women
write.
In conclusion, women write to have a voice to air their opinions on
challenges that could bring about change in their lives.
